• How did the film make you feel? (excited, intrigued, happy etc) This film intrigued me as it was actually different and interesting.
• In your opinion, what was the most striking element of the film? The most striking part of the film was where the hand was used to lift things. I wasn't expecting this so that is why I found it interesting.
• List three other things that you found interesting?I thought the people walking into the building at the start was cool as there was so many layers in the background, I also thought the ships moving through the sky was cool as it would be a good way of doing it and lastly I thought the man using a massive spanner to leaver something was cool as it was so big and the man was so small.
• What meaning did you think the artist was trying to convey? I think the artist was trying to convey the idea of how much humans are used in the real worlds factories.
• What is your overall impression of the film’s mood? I think the films mood was a creative, happy and hard working one.
• Did sound play an important part in your response to the film? The sound played an important part of the film as it gave away the mood more. The sound was the sound of all the machines and without this the animation would have just been weird.
• What comments can you make about the animators technique? (i.e. was it simple, complicated, smooth, jerky etc) The animators technique was very smooth and the camera always kept moving left at the same pace, level and rate.
• Do you think that this animation would have been well planned?  This animation would have to have been the one that was the best planned as it had the most layers and complexity.

Circus

• CIRCUS
• How did the film make you feel? (excited, intrigued, happy etc) This film scared me a lot as all the women were moving very weirdly and it was all black, white and scary.
• In your opinion, what was the most striking element of the film? The most striking part of the animation for me would be the part where it says the only cure for elephantitis and the people come up with the elephant ears, nose and sound.
• List three other things that you found interesting?I found the amount of layers in this animation very interesting as every time I watched it I saw something I hadn't seen the time before. Another thing I found interesting was the shadow. I know it is very hard to get shadow in an animation and realise this would be hard to make. The last thing I found interesting was the music. The music was different as it was the same instruments used to make all different sounds and then repeated.
• What meaning did you think the artist was trying to convey? I think the meaning that the artist wanted to convey was that we all think a circus is all fun and games where really it is not it is actually we forget that at circus's there are freak shows and that what this is.
• What is your overall impression of the film’s mood? I think the mood of this film is meant to be scary. This was very scary as it is trying to show the audience something different and that what it does.
• Did sound play an important part in your response to the film? The sound wasn't as important in this animation but it did help get the mood across.
• What comments can you make about the animators technique? (i.e. was it simple, complicated, smooth, jerky etc) This animation was a bit jerky and complicated. The jerkiness of this film also contributed to the scariness of it.
• Do you think that this animation would have been well planned? This animation would have to had been very well planned as now there are so many layers.

Term 4- analysis of vimeo films DIGITOPIA

Digitopia

• How did the film make you feel? (excited, intrigued, happy etc) Digitopia makes me feel calm in the way of the calming music and blue, black and white colours. It also makes be feel a bit afraid as there are needles and blood in the animation and that is something I am afraid of.
• In your opinion, what was the most striking element of the film? The  most striking element of the film is the sound. I find the music with the film really striking as it kind of scares me. I find it very mysterious as it blends in with the tones in the animation.
  
• List three other things that you found interesting? I found it really interesting in the animation where the hands come out of the mountain, where the hands act as birds and where the person puts the needle into the arm of a lady and then a mechanical arm grows on the other side of her.
• What meaning did you think the artist was trying to convey? I think the artist was trying to convey a mysterious, happy, passionate mood to the audience.
  
• What is your overall impression of the film’s mood? I found the films mood overall mystical. The music, colours, tones and lines all contribute me feeling this mood.
  
• Did sound play an important part in your response to the film? Yes I think without the sound the animation would have been a lot more confusing than it is. The song lyrics in utopia in the animation pretty much explains it all. Utopia pretty much means paradise and the name of the film in digitopia. This means the title means digital paradise which is what the animation is about.
• What comments can you make about the animators technique? (i.e. was it simple, complicated, smooth, jerky etc)  The animators technique was very smooth and complex.
• Do you think that this animation would have been well planned? Yes this animation would have had to have been very well planned as there would have been a lot of photoshop used and layers.

Reflection and Evaluation

Reflection and Evaluation

I think the final result of Georgia and my animation was pretty good. I think it was good because you could see the improvement Georgia and I developed throughout the whole 14 weeks of making our animation. I think the animation process ended up taking a lot longer than I expected it too. At the start I did not think that it would take a whole lesson to shoot just one scene. I think the way we developed our animation was really good by using istopmotion. I think this would be the most effective way of conveying the story that Georgia and I wanted to convey. The project Georgia and I made was really great and I don't think I would like to have changed anything if we were able to started again.

I won’t give up, the final animation Georgia and I produced I think turned out a bit different to what we originally expected it to. There weren’t any major changes but as we were developing our movie there were some scenes we had to change because we either discovered it would be too hard to do or it didn't make sense. The scenes we changed were where the police man was meant to come onto the scene and help the boy get his balloon down, instead of this we put a question mark above the boys head and made it so he went and got a ball to throw at the balloon in the tree instead. We also changed the material of the balloon in the actual thing, as originally it was clay. This ended up being to hard and not even the wire could hold this. So we changed the material of the balloon to paper and this ended up looking better and more realistic anyway.

My animation skills throughout making our movie improved greatly and rapidly. At the start as you can probably see in movie our walking was not that good and the man was just shuffling. But we soon worked out how to make it look more realistic having the man moving his hands, arms and knees while walking. I also came a lot more efficient during making our movie as I found it easier to animate our character and the set. The technique we used for our movie at the start was just having the set and the man. But whilst one night Georgia and I were on YouTube we found this really cool animation for a lyric video of a song. We decided this would be a great way to do the introduction and credits of our film and this worked really well. This actually ended up being one of the best parts of our film and it would have to be the part of our movie I liked the most. Georgia and I encountered many difficulties throughout the animation and filming process. Our set was destroyed many times by people who were walking through the classroom which we soon solved by putting do not touch signs everywhere and locking our character away. We also lost some of our scenes we had shot, as they did not save properly. This was a bit of a disappointment as we may have been able to make our movie a lot better in the end if we had that extra time on our hands to improve our final animation. Another minor problem Georgia and I had whilst shooting our film was making the ball look like it was getting thrown through the sky. This was very hard as we had to use fishing line and at the same time not let it be seen. We overcame this problem with trial and error, but in the end it ended up looking really good. The last problem I encountered was exporting by scenes to put on my blog. As I live at school the Internet is not that good. So whenever I went to upload a scene or something to my blog it didn't load or did not have enough Internet to complete the loading. I ended up overcoming this in the end as I just had to learn to wait a long time.

Storyboards and planning were a large part of Georgia and my movie. If we did not have that shot list or storyboard by our side whilst shooting those scenes we may have not had the reasonably good movie with have today. I learnt that planning is a major contributor to the animation process and helps a lot. Whilst making our movie Georgia and I worked pretty efficiently but as I stated above because we left a few scenes due to saving errors we did have to come in on a Sunday and keep working on our animation. We also used a couple of our lunch times to work on our animation.

Reflections were also a major part of the animation process for me. I think I did a good amount of reflections that were very informative and discussed any problems Georgia and I encountered throughout making our movie.  I could have maybe put a few more blog updates up about my animation so I would have most defiantly had enough evidence to support my work if something were to happen to it or if I were to lose it. My blog does look like a terms worth or work and I think was done reasonably well throughout out the term and a bit.

I learnt many things using animation throughout making the movie. I learnt that saving in to the desktop and then taking it to the USB is quicker for some odd reason instead of saving it to the USB straight away. I also learnt how to quickly use both istopmotion and Photoshop at the same time. Over all I think Georgia and I did very well with our animation and I am very proud of it!

WE HAVE FINISHED!!

Yesterday Georgia and I completed our final film. Georgia put the rest of the scenes together and I made the sound clip. We then exported the final film and put the sound track with it. We ended up doing the final movie in not the latest version of imovie as we could not save it to a USB so we completed it in the one before it. This ended up working better anyway as we could put the sound track to it easier. When I did a remix of the song I Won't Give Up by Jason Mraz, I did it in GarageBand as it was alot easier and I learnt how to use it last year in music. Once we put our whole film together it looked very effective and I was very proud of it. We are going to view all the completed movies tomorrow which should be really good. Although Georgia and I aren't quite complete yet! We still have to upload our storyboards to our blogs which will be coming soon once I figure out how to put them up there. The last thing we have to do is put our final movie on our blog. Which I tried to just before but for some reason it didnt work! I will get Mr. Andrews to help me with this and then show me how to scan the storyboards on the photocopier and then upload them to the blog. I CANT BELIEVE WE HAVE FINISHED!!!!!!!! :D

Reflection 12/09/12

Today in media we put all our scenes together in imovie. This was exciting as it showed us what our movie is going to look like and whether it would work or not! This was also very nerve-racking as it would determine how much more we would have to film. Today we also dragged some of the photos out of the scene we wanted to put a light bulb in to photoshop. This worked really well as it happened alot quicker than I expected it to. The last thing we did today was start our finally where the credits come down. We didnt complete this today as we didnt have enough time but we'll complete it next lesson. Georgia and I also have to work out how to get the movie to appear in the book at the start at the end. But if we do not have enough time to do that we will just do a fade or use a transition. Nearly Done!!!!
