Avatar Reflection/evaluation:

Making my avatar was a fun, educational and new process for me. I did not encounter many problems whilst making it but I needed a lot of inspiration before I actually new what I was going to do. I had a few technical difficulties while making my avatar such as:

·       Masks not working

·       Not being able to blend properly

·       Make body parts look like they were actually meant to be there

·       Having trouble copying and pasting

I think all these difficulties were due to lack of knowledge in Photoshop, as I was new to it. But most of these I over came over time and with help from Mr. Andrews. Masks not working was pretty much the only thing that was affected by the computer not working. Thankfully, I didn’t have any corrupt or lost files and ended up having a good knowledge of Photoshop.

My planning and inspiration was a very helpful and important part of my avatar task. I planned on the character profile sheet which changed many times all the way through the making of my avatar. For my avatar as I said above I needed a lot of inspiration and needed to have a good imagination to think of what I wanted it to look like. I also looked at some other girls blogs from last year and some of them were great inspiration for both my blog and my avatar. I think my organization with Photoshop was very good as I had it completed on time. I was very lucky with this task as I am a boarder and I had MacBook’s with Photoshop available every night and day. I also thought I was organized as I wasn’t rushed at the end and started on my second avatar at the half way mark. I was helped a fair bit by Mr. Andrews during making my avatar but the things I needed help with were things that I would not be able to complete without his help.

I think I did use the profile sheet effectively as it did give me inspiration and without it I would not have the avatar I have now. At the very start I downloaded images, which I thought I would be able to use for my avatar and most of them I did use. My character profile assisted my creative decision making a lot and helped me out gigantically over all.

I didn’t encounter any time management issues while making my avatar as I have had everything done and completed on time. But I did make sure I ha access to a MacBook at least two to three times week so I would have my avatar done on time.

I think reflection is one thing I could have done better whilst making my avatar as for my first avatar I did not upload progression images and did not do as detailed reflections. My reflections should maybe have been a less quantity but a longer reflection.

I discovered the skill of the gradient whist using Photoshop and it would have to be my favourite tool in the whole of Photoshop so far!

Overall I am satisfied with the overall result of my avatar and am very happy and proud of it. If I could change any aspects of my avatar I would change the body and maybe make it look like a more alien body. If I could start the avatar again I would do the background first so then I wouldn’t have to apply it at the end as a mask and it would be neater this way. I am very pleased with the progress I have made in Photoshop and hope we work on it again in the future.

Final Work on Avatar

Today I did my final touch ups on my avatar. I went through and looked for any little blemishes when I zoomed in and made sure my masks were all neat and tidy.  I also uploaded my new character profile to my blog so it would be updated and match what I did on my avatar. This is all I got up to in todays lesson and then I will hand my avatars in tomorrow.

Reflection 21/03/12

Today in Creative media I showed Mr. Andrews both of my avatars and he told me what I had to fix up and correct. I had to correct the fuzzieness on the lines of the body so it would look more natural and not as fluffy. I also blended the lines of the barbie doll joints together so it looked more like a real body.In todays lesson I made sure all my masks were neat and looked natural. In todays lesson I changed the colour of my lips to make them blend inn and look more similar to my hair colour. I changed the different blues so they were the same colour of my hair.

Reflection 19/03/2012

Today in Creative Media I continued working on my second avatar. I started my changing the different colours of my hair and getting the fine bits my using the mask and turning the opacity up and down. I also had to change the brush options by making it soft,hard,small and big. Once I had done the hair I did the texture on the face the same as the first one but then made the colours all dark so she looked sad. Because SAD is what the emotion of my second avatar is. After I did the texture on my face I inserted the barbie body. Once I had masked the barbie body the lesson and thats all i finished working on in todays lesson.

Reflection 14/03/12

Today in creative media I think I finished my first avatar which was really exciting. I made the final touches to my avatar which was like liquifying the face and making sure the masks are all very neat and precise. This was really hard because I wanted all my layers to blend and look all normal and 3D. Today I also used the dodge and burn tools. This was the first time I actually needed to use these tools and I realized the real difference they made. Todays lesson was really good and I'm looking forward to working on my second avatar.

Reflection 13/03/12

Today in creative media I blended the barbie doll with the head of my avatar. I also had to put the same texture which was originally on its face as its body. This took a lot of time and I found it quite hard. I had to use Hue/Saturation and different blending modes. With my avatar I have used the mask tool ALOT! I think I am going to have to hurry up with my avatar, borrow a laptop out on the weekend and start on my second avatar.

Reflection

Today in creative media I worked on making a background. I started by finding a couple of different images that I thought would be suitable to put behind my avatar but still not take the focus off her. I got a moon, a cloudy sky and a galaxy. When I started to bind all these together it all looked really good! But I still have a bit of work to do on it. I have to decide what I am going to put on the bottom half of the background. This was good because I learnt how to use another aspect of photoshop. I also have been working on my lips, face colour/texture, hair and eyes.

Todays Reflection

Today in creative media I continued working on my avatar and did her hair and lips. I learnt the gradiant tool. Which I thought was really really cool! I got to choose which colours I wanted put over my lips and hair andn made the different type of rainbow pattern I wanted.  Once I applyed the gradient tool I put a mask over it so I could rub out the bits I did not want. I then adjusted the opacity so it looked more natural and used a softer brush. Once I had done this Mr. Andrews showed us how to repaint the eyelashes and change the colour and thickness of them. I found this really cool and he also taught us how to make them look more natural. Today I also fixed up a few extra blemishes that I found when I zoomed it a bit.
