06/0813-Lesson Advice: Learning about timeline, browser, sequences, effects, viewer and the canvas

Yellow arrow (play head)- this tells you exactly what frame you are on and informs you of the timecode. If you do not have this above the shot you want to see you will not be able to see what effect you are applying or what you have edited.

Effects Window- click from browser onto the effects tab. This should include video transitions from one shot to the other and when one shot merges into another shot. This is includes things like fade to white, fade to black and many others. The only one we should be using is a cross dissolve or fade in or fade out dissolve. No ammuture video transitions (page curls, flips and stars.) This will also include video filters. THis is things such as blurs, defocus, focus and many others. Each blur would be used for different genres and sub-genres for example soft blur for a romantic type of film. DO NOT FORGET TO DOUBLE CLICK CLIP! THEN MOVE THE PLAY HEAD ON TOP!  and then you can continue editing the blur in the aspects of amount, sides and angles. If you add to many focuses or effects click on it and click delete. Effects we need to know are blur, distort, glow and maybe stylise. Do not use colour correction - too hard. Instead use control and use colour balance, brightness and contrast, levels, sepia and maybe some others.

If your editing does not work, click sequence, render and then render selection. To undo press command Z and then double click on shot. Then just delete anything edited.

Video Generators: if you want a black video to add text on click on matte and then use it as a a file under your sequence. You can then click this and cut/edit just like a normal shot. To add text onto it then click on text also under video generators, under text and then text again.

How to speed up a shot: double click clip, then click motion and then click time remap.

We did not do much this week as we were organising all our post production task

Reflection on what happened, what we were organising and how we had started our post production task.

How we began editing, which scenes we needed and chose to work on and explanation of starting EDL.
4th Week!
Should be finishing off EDL and continue clipping and editing scenes and shots.

Have got 3-4 hours of homework time to work on!
Think about getting laptop out for long weekend.
Manipulate the film skillfully to get an A, otherwise no A
May want to use soundtrack pro to make soundtrack- the advanced version of garageband!

Reflection

The past couple of lessons in creative media we have been converting videos using mpeg stream clip so they can be used and played in Final Cut Pro. Jasmine has also joined our group for the post production part of this term as she was away last term. We gave every member in our group two scenes to convert so we each had the same amount and so it was fair. We all converted these clips but we ended up having three quarters of our group members away so I just ended up converting the rest. The past couple of lessons we have also been trying to organise filming times as Julian has been away, Bella is selling her house and the rest of us have sport every other afternoon. We have finally organised to do it this Sunday and Mr Andrews has agreed to give us a filming extension which is really helpful as well. The last lesson we had we began to edit the scenes that did not need footage re-shot it. But when we started that we realised we were also missing some of the footage. We discovered Shae had some of the footage on her USB and we did not get it off her last term so Julian then converted that and we will get that off her next lesson. So far our group has had a slow start with people being away and trying to fit into peoples timetables with the filming but I am sure once we get everything done and are out on own editing we will find things a lot easier!

Program for the next few weeks is all about time management. 

Next two lessons are used to convert shots to Mpeg Stream-clip settings.

Each person in the group changes certain format and then you all exchange.

Then import into Final Cut and can start editing.

If you give a standard definition project then a high definition project you can not get anything higher than a B.

Films may be able to be entered into film festivals.

Make sure you have a BACKUP!!

Steps to putting shots in Final Cut Pro:

Steps to putting shots in Final Cut Pro:

1.    Once video has been converted in mpeg stream clip. Open Final Cut Pro.

2.    Delete any sequences that appear in Final Cut Pro when you open it.

3.    Now go to file, easy setup and change easy formats to Apple Intermediate Codec, next change use to HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 720p30. Finally click ok.

4.    Next go to Final Cut Pro and click on system settings.

5.    Once in system setting set the very first row to the location of where you are getting your shots.

6.    Then set the waveform cache, thumbnail cache and autosave vault all to the location where you are getting your shots from and then press ok.

7.    Now click file, new and then sequence. Now a new sequence should appear in your browser.

8.    Then click on file again but this time go down to import. Once you have clicked on import, click files and find the shot you want to use. Repeat this step to import any other shots.

Reflection- Lessons 1 and 2

In the past two lessons we have been discussing what we are going to work on this term. This term we are each individually editing our film and are making it the way we would like it. In lesson one we disscussed what HD is and what setting choices to choose and why. We discussed the why we choose the format for our film in comparison to what a movie playing in a movie cinema would be. In lesson 2 we spent the whole lesson going over the post production process and what it involved which was:

•Sorting, editing and assembling the footage;•Adding visual effects, computer-generated imagery (CGI), titles etc;•Colour correction or grading of each clip;•Recording/Writing the soundtrack;•Mixing the audio track (Re-recording dialogue, adding sound design and effects);• Transferring the film to a required format, (DVD, Blu-Ray, Quicktime, Windows Media Player).
I thought about this and realised how much I could develop my film and realised how I could make it better. Our homework was set to read some documents about different topics that Mr Andrews has left links to which I plan to do on the weekend. I also think my group has some planning to do but am not quite sure what so I think we should sort that out and get organised! I think it will be hard for me to get on leave this term if we have to film as I have an exchange. But I am sure we can work around that!
